The
Administrator is responsible for the installation and
maintenance of all electronic data processing equipment
and systems necessary for the administration of the
Trust Fund.
The Administrator has an In-House Group and a Computer
Operations Department. All programs are developed
in-house and can be adjusted to suit the client. We can
provide on-line services ranging from inquiry to full
input and printing. Strict confidentiality in access is
maintained.
Since we purchased our first computer (IBM 360) in 1967,
we have constantly been altering our hardware
configuration and our software. Today our primary
facility is the IBM iSeries e-server. It encompasses:
on-line interactive processing for instant updates and
terminal display of information, computer to computer
communications, the flexibility of database technology,
bulk data transfer in tape or diskette format, high
level query compatibility for the instant production of
ad-hoc reports, programming aids for the quick response
to system requests and multi-level security to protect
the data against fraudulent use.
Our capability is 120 local terminals and 250 remote
devices.
In addition to our e-server capabilities, we have an
extensive micro-computer network for the application of
accounting, word processing, pension calculation and
facilities management.
All of our main systems have been developed in-house and
are constantly being updated by in-house systems
personnel; i.e. Health Benefits Eligibility, Pension
Accrual, Vacation
Pay, S.U.B., Living Allowance, Delinquency Control,
Medical and Dental Claims Payment.
We take pride in employing a programming department of
6
full-time staff.
Our micro-computer systems personnel have developed
software for the Union environment allowing for member
management including dispatch, dues collection and
training funds. Many of our clients are pressured by
beneficiary demand for greater communication. Our
clients can be provided with terminals to access
information or if further interaction is requested,
accommodation can be made. Increased interaction between
the Trustees and the Administrator is dependent upon the
sharing of the workload desired by the Trustees. Our
system can and has supported a national account on an
interactive basis with locations in Toronto, Montreal
and Vancouver. At the present time, our regional and
satellite offices are on-line and interacting with our
IBM iSeries in Toronto.
BPA can provide on-line services from inquiry access to
full-input and printing, including:
- Ability to provide on-site terminals with Internet
access to the Member Eligibility system for approved
users;
- On-line interactive processing for instant updates
and terminal display of information;
- Multi-level security to protect data against
misuse; and
- Full firewall protection technology with password
protection measures.
